Chemical Peels

For years, we have used chemical peels and acid treatments to make skin appear younger, and improve acne and discoloration. Dr. Edwards offers glycolic and salicylic acid peels as in-office treatments. These superficial peels are safe for all skin colors and types, and have very few side effects. They are repeated every 2-3 weeks until the desired result is achieved. Glycolic acid also is available in a product line for home use. For more information, visit glytone.com.

Restylane

Many products have been used over the years to fill deep facial lines and folds (like the smile lines) that develop around the mouth with age. In recent years, fillers that are well tolerated with few side effects have gained popularity. Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid, one of the building blocks of living organisms. It is delivered as an injection every several months into facial folds with excellent results, little down time, and limited risk of allergic reaction.

Botox

Muscles responsible for facial expression can cause accentuation of facial lines. This usually occurs on the forehead, nose, and around the eyes. Botox cosmetic is a purified bacterial protein which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause lines between the brows and around the eyes to form. Botox is administered as an injection and can last for up to 4 months.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a surface peeling of the skin done with fine crystals and precisely delivered gentle suction. It is used for acne, fine wrinkles and discoloration of skin. It also works for pitted scars. There is virtually no down-time. The treatments are repeated every 2-3 weeks until the desired result is achieved.

Therapeutic Facials

Facials are available for deep cleansing of normal skin, rosacea, and the irritated male beard. Treatments are 45 - 60 minutes and are repeated as needed.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal uses a low-energy laser to target pigment within, and gently remove unwanted hair, putting an end to routine shaving and waxing. Hair may not re-grow for several years after treatment. The treatments require no sedation, and only topical anesthesia, if desired.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Unwanted tattoos can often be treated by laser. The treatments have a good success rate and are repeated every several weeks until the unwanted pigmentation is resolved.

Ultraviolet Light

Light treatments have long been used to treat many inflammatory conditions of skin, including psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, and pityriasis rosea. It is also used on occasion for hair loss. They are performed 2-3 times weekly.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is treatment of unsightly spider veins/small vessels found in the surface layers of skin, mostly on the legs. Concentrated salt solution is injected into the vessels, causing them to collapse. For veins too small to inject, a good result can be achieved with laser treatment.

Patch Testing

This test is performed when a determination of skin allergy has to be made. Sticky patches coated with common sensitizing agents are placed on the back for 48 hours, then read twice to discover if an allergy is present. This is often used for recurring rashes on skin.
